Val & Roger Baker's Freshwater & Saltwater Fly Fishing
Cloghvoola is one of the most stunningly beautiful 'wilderness' locations in the whole of Ireland. Located at the eastern end of Lough Currane and at the base of the Coomcallee Mountain Range, Cloghvoola is uniquely placed to provide peace, solitude, home comfort and world-class freshwater and saltwater fly fishing experiences.
Better known as the Ring Of Kerry, the Iveragh Peninsula is the most westerly land mass in Ireland (or Europe). It comprises an area of 344,000 acres of which 9000 acres are covered by rivers and lakes. The Atlantic Ocean borders the Iveragh Peninsula on three sides.
It is the most mountainous part of Ireland and is dominated by north-east to south-west trending mountain ranges, separated by intervening valleys, which extend to an irregularly indented coastline of cliffs and bays at the western end.
Some of Kerry's finest, yet inexpensive, salmon and sea trout rivers are but a short drive from Cloghvoola. We fish the Caragh, Laune, Cummeragh, Currane and Inny. You will fish with ghillies who have up to forty years experience of these rivers, Lough Currane (surely one of Ireland's greatest game fishing loughs) and the upper lakes, including West Kerry's brown trout 'jewel', Lough Derriana.
As well as the lakes and rivers by day, enjoy evening and night time sea trout (sea-run browns) fishing on virtually unknown and unfished streams.
Miles of golden surf beaches (strands) and rocky reefs which await the saltwater fly fisher, are but a short drive from Cloghvoola and offer some of the best bass fly fishing in Europe.
Take your pick of the fishing during your stay with us. Mix bass sessions with salmon, trout and sea trout. Even have a session after pollock and wrasse. Great sporting quarry for the saltwater fly rodder. Follow a day fishing a lough with a ghille, by a day fishing the surf with a guide.
